What is psychological testing?
Psychological testing refers to formal assessment methods psychologists use to better understand an individual's psychological or cognitive functioning, determine or clarify a psychiatric or neurodevelopment diagnosis, and assist in the development of appropriate therapeutic interventions. Psychoeducational testing involves a standardized assessment of a child's intellectual and academic skills and is often used to help facilitate educational placement and special education services.
Evaluations with Dr. McQuiddy include an initial appointment with parents to gather information about your child and discuss the evaluation process. This is followed by a comprehensive battery of tests to provide insight and understand into their unique strengths and difficulties. Evaluation results are then reviewed with parents in an additional appointment and a comprehensive report is provided to guide intervention.

How can testing help my child?
Psychological testing can play a vital role in identifying the underlying factors contributing to your child's struggles, whether that be academic, social, or emotional, or more often, a combination of influences. Understanding your child’s challenges allows you and your child's teachers to implement targeted interventions to support your child's unique needs and learning style. By addressing your child’s challenges proactively, you can help your child unlock their full potential and obtain success at school and in their relationships, while feeling confident and supported. Oftentimes evaluations are used to establish Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, and therapeutic treatment plans with therapists and/or psychiatrists.
